Garnet. Dragons, firelizards, and watch-whers, all welcome a third shade of female. Ranging in shade from dark maroon tones all the way to hides with only the faintest tinge of red or orange, garnets are also the only colour of dragon known to clutch only a single egg, though there are records of as many as eighteen. In a flight caught by a bronze, a garnet may lay, at most, bronze and/or garnet eggs. The approximate size of a brown in the same species, they are sturdy fliers, though more agile than males, and considerably more stamina and staying power than mere greens.
Garnet dragons are exclusive to Shorn Island, and have appeared ever since the first clutch from a Flight within the Weyr's boundaries. The anomaly has been attributed to some rare mineral or element present near the ancient volcano, though some say that, according to the shipfish, something of the humans' once fell into the seas nearby, long ago.
